About Speakoz English Learning Resources

Speakoz began in 2000 to fill a void. The Speakoz team realised that many people could not afford the exhorbitant costs of college courses for learning the English Language. So, a spoken English Language home tutoring course was developed for students from Asia.

The system was based in Sydney, Australia and focused on developing pronunciation and listening skills for students who were shocked to find that they couldn't understand Australians.

Australian English is very different to British or American English and so students, who had arrived in Sydney to study Accounting or Business, suddenly found they needed to learn to speak English again!

Not only could they not understand Australians, but Australians couldn't understand them either!

The Speakoz courses were 1 hour discussions on Australian culture and spoken language. Students would bring the words or an approximation of the words that they couldn't understand and these would be carefully explained to them with examples and practice sessions if required. Tricks on understanding Australian pronunciation were also taught.

Courses included - Finding a job, the interview, meeting people in the pub, exploring Sydney, double meanings in classifieds and newspapers, and many other courses. Courses could also be tailored to what the student needed, eg: Customs and politics in an Australian office.

Students from Indonesia, China, Korea and Japan have enjoyed being tutored by Speakoz.

The courses became so well known that Japanese universities enquired about our services, and the possibility of taking on school groups.

Australian English wasn't the only course that Speakoz offered, but all our courses relied on one-to-one tuition. A way needed to be found to help people around the world enjoy some of the sites we'd used that helped our students improve their spoken English.

And so Speakoz - The English Language Learning Resources Directory was born. To help international people with their English, the course site was redeveloped into the directory site of easy English Language learning pages. It is constantly being updated so feel free to submit your favourite English Learning site.

If you do have a site to submit, we will give preference to sites featuring free content.
